At the end of January, a coalition of 34 European trade unions sent letters to 112 companies listed in the UN database for their complicity and/or involvement with illegal Israeli settlements.
On 12 February 2020 the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) published a database of companies involved in business activities that maintain and facilitate the illegal Israeli settlement enterprise in the OPT. The database lists 112 companies, which have been found, following extensive consultation and research by the UN, to be involved in substantial and material settlement-related business activity.
In their letter, trade union organisations called on all those companies to immediately withdraw from all activities in illegal Israeli settlements, including supplying them with equipment and services.
“We will also continue to encourage governments, public bodies and pension funds to take steps to ensure that purchasing, procurement and investment decisions do not contribute to breaches of human and labour rights and international law, using engagement and divestment where appropriate.” – the unions say.
